A Bramley-based group which supports struggling families with babies has been broken into and ransacked.

One of the storerooms at Leeds Baby Bank, which is run by volunteers, was trashed on Friday night.

Thieves took a new boxed high chair and bags of new toys, nappies and soaps which were due to be distributed to families in need this week.

A post on the Baby Bank’s Facebook page said:

“Not news we wanted to share with you guys but we have sadly been broken into and they have damaged our doors and thrown stuff everywhere.

“How someone could do this to a charity that supports the most needy is heartbreaking and honestly, infuriating.”

It’s believed the burglars were disturbed before they could break into any other rooms at the base, in St Catherine’s Business Complex in Broad Lane. Police are currently investigating.

Leeds baby Bank, which has just marked its first birthday, offers urgent support or baby essentials such as nappies, wipes and formula to struggling parents across Leeds and also provides baby equipment.
