Business owners have met to discuss ways to improve Kirkstall Road following the Boxing Day floods of 2015.

The second Kirkstall Resilient Business Network met recently at the Team Kirkstall Hub to discuss three major issues in the area.

Those issues include how to quickly make the area look better, feel safer and feel like it’s open for business again, innovative marketing focussing on the future of the area and forging partnerships to make sure that the regeneration of the area is an effort which truly involves the entire community.

Organiser Phil Markem said on Facebook:

“It is time for both the business community and the residential community to have an open forum to work closely together to make the area truly resilient. Really there is a lot of native talent and skill in Kirkstall and we should work first with what is here – so let’s discuss ways to make that happen.”

The next meeting will be on February 23 at MOD Pizza at Cardigan Fields. More details here.

The hub is based next to the Sheesh Mahal restaurant on Kirkstall Road. The restaurant has been closed for 13 months since the River Aire broke its banks. Owner Azram Choudry is hoping his business will reopen around the middle of February.

The date of the first community-led clean-up on the banks of the River Aire has also been announced as February 18:
