Councillors will today discuss a new action plan to help historic buildings at risk across the city.

18 buildings in West Leeds are on the council’s list which highlights buildings at risk of neglect and decay.

A report being presented to Leeds City Council’s Joint Plans Panel says the authority is working to “prioritise intervention”, and its work can range “from partnership working with owners to the use of statutory powers to carry out repairs”.

The former Mike’s Carpets building in Armley is one of the five buildings across the city which the council has prioritised.

The report states the council is pleased with progress on the building, which has seen ‘high quality’ restoration work carried out thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the council.

  1. I don’t know why the council don’t just make Mikes Carpets into apartments instead of constantly proposing things but doing nothing. I worked there and they would be lovely with the windows and distinctive features. There is even a safe underground car park and the two old cinemas which could also be transformed. Just get on with it!
