Horsforth School pupils are celebrating another outstanding year of GCSE success.
74% of students got a strong pass (5+) in English and maths and 87% of students got a standard pass (4+) in English and maths.
The school is also celebrating an excellent performance across all subjects with 13% of grades awarded at grade 9 and 41% of all grades at grade 7 or above.
Many students will now continue their studies at The Sixth Form at Horsforth, while others are progressing to college, apprenticeships and vocational pathways.
Reflecting on the results, Dr Paul Bell, headteacher at Horsforth School, said: “It’s been a fantastic morning and a real privilege to celebrate with our students and their families. GCSE Results Day is always special because every student has their own achievements to be proud of.
“These results are the reward for years of hard work and determination, and I’m incredibly proud of every one of our students. Whatever they choose to do next, I know they will leave Horsforth with the confidence to succeed. I’d also like to thank our dedicated staff and our families for the support they’ve given throughout the last five years.”
Among the students celebrating today were Aryan Abaian, Grace Pugh, Miriam Lam and Abi Degnan, who all achieved exceptional GCSE results.
Aryan Abaian and Miriam Lam both achieved an exceptional 11 grade 9s each, an outstanding achievement attained by only 1% of students nationally.
Aryan shared his reaction: “I honestly had to look twice because I couldn’t believe it! I was so nervous before I opened them, so it’s such a relief. It’s been a long couple of years, and I’m just really happy with how it’s all turned out.”
Opening her results was a moment Miriam won’t forget: “I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect, so I’m really pleased. It’s a great feeling when everything you’ve worked towards comes together, and I’m just excited to enjoy today.”
Abi Degnan and Grace Pugh both achieved an outstanding 10 grade 9s and one grade 8 again placing them among the highest achieving students nationally.
For Abi, the results were a proud moment: “I’m really proud of my results. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve had loads of support from my teachers over the last few years, and they’ve always been there to help. I’m just really happy today.”
Horsforth School offers a broad and balanced education, helping students develop the knowledge, confidence and skills they need for sixth form, college, apprenticeships and future careers.
Students across Leeds are today collecting their GCSE results.
Councillor Helen Hayden, Leeds City Council’s executive member for children and families, said: “Taking exams involves a huge amount of hard work, effort and determination so all students should feel incredibly proud of their achievements.
“Thank you to the families, schools, colleges and other learning settings which have all supported our city’s pupils in their learning journeys so far.
“As corporate parents, we are also keen to say how proud we are of all the children looked after who are receiving results today and we also celebrate the social workers, fostering and kinship carers, designated teachers and Virtual School team who supported them.
“I’d like to wish all our young people the very best for the future and remind everyone that support, advice and guidance is available from schools and settings for anyone still considering their future options.”
Support available
There is support available for students who did not get the results they were hoping for and those who don’t have plans for September.
Students can use Leeds City Council’s Start in Leeds platform to access information and advice about post-16 learning opportunities and get in touch with local schools, colleges and apprenticeship providers.
The Next Steps page also signposts learners to the council’s Employment Hub and the Leeds Pathways team, both of which can give information, advice and guidance to young people as they decide what to do next.
