West Leeds residents are being invited to have their say on two new projects to improve parts of New Wortley.

The New Wortley Gateway project was originally announced in March 2018 as part of a tranche of Leeds City Council money aimed at improving struggling local centres across Leeds.

New Wortley was allocated £76,000 for a scheme to introduce green space and public realm enhancements to the corner of Green Lane and Tong Road.

There are also separate proposals plans for a cultural space to be created for children and young people living in the area. The space was originally designed for the front of Leeds Art Gallery.

A drop in event later this month will allow local residents a chance to comment upon and shape the early proposals.

New Wortley Community Community Association CEO Andrea Edwards said:

“We are delighted to be working in partnership once again with the students from Leeds Beckett University on two exciting projects – the New Wortley Gateway project and also plans for a cultural space to be created for children and young people living in the area.

“We look forward to welcoming local people to drop into the centre from 11am to find out more and have their voice heard as we look to move the projects forward.”

The drop-in event will run at New Wortley Community Centre on Thursday 20 February, between 11am and 2pm.
