New security fencing will help protect Western Flatts Cliff Park in Wortley after councillors agreed to fund the improvements.
Members of the Outer West Communty Committee met yesterday evening (Monday, 21 September) at the Atlanta Street Sheltered Housing Complex Community Centre in Stanningley to discuss what they would fund from their budget.
Councillors agreed to fund £3,575 towards the installation of ‘birds mouth’ fencing at Western Flatts Park to prevent unauthorised and nuisance parking, protect green space from vehicle damage, and improve safety for park users.
Meeting chair Councillor Adrian McCluskey (Lab, Farnley & Wortley) said the measures were something members of the park Friends group had been campaigning for ‘a long time’ and welcomed the investment.
He said the fence would be sited near the bus turning circle on Green Hill Lane.
Other successful applications for funding included:
- £2,500 towards Pudsey Seniors’ Lunch Club, run by Pudsey Community Project to support a weekly lunch club for older people.
- £750 towards a free weekly youth club for young people aged 10-17 in Tyersal, run by Leeds Youth Services. Cllr Dawn Seary (Cons, Pudsey) welcomed the grant due to the levels of deprivation there and in surrounding areas.
- £1,950 for bench improvements on Swinnow Moor, which were welcomed by Cllr Simon Seary (Cons, Pudsey).
Money was also ringfenced for new grit bins in the area.
Councillors also heard a presentation from the council’s youth services team, which provides and manages a range of activities for young people across the area each week. The sessions give young people somewhere welcoming to spend time, make friends and try new things, with support from youth workers they can get to know and trust.
The meeting agenda can be found here.
The Outer West Community Committee is made up of councillors from Bramley & Stanningley, Calverley & Farsley, Farnley & Wortley and Pudsey wards.
