Council bosses have signed off £290,000 works to transform the existing Farsley Library building into a community hub housing a variety of services.
Work will include new customer service areas, a new reception counter, new enquiry room, new library provision and staff office with kitchen/break out space.
There will also be new public/self service PCs, a large meeting room and a new accessible customer toilet.
Alteration and improvement works includes new carpets, lighting, heating system, new windows, new ceilings, security and cctv systems and new Wi-Fi provision, together with complete internal and external redecoration.
The scheme also includes new customer and staff furniture, including new library shelving, a new children’s library provision and associated seating tables, as well as ICT equipment.
A council officer says in a report signing off the scheme:
“Customer satisfaction and feedback has been extremely positive in relation to the Community Hubs delivered [across the city] to date, with residents/partners appreciating the investment in the buildings and the range of services available in one place.
“The Farsley Community Hub is part of the Community Hub programme to provide a modern safe environment that treats our customers with respect and encourages contact with Leeds City Council as an organisation that can offer help and assistance.”
As reported by the Dispatch last month, Farsley residents were able to view and comment on the proposals at a January consultation event at the library.
A closing date for the work isn’t yet known, but it will be withing this financial year. Work is expected to take three months with staff and services transferred to Calverley Library in the meantime.
Community hubs, where a variety of community services are centralised, have also been introduced in Armley, Bramley and Pudsey in recent years.
