Council chiefs have released more than £840,000 of funding to pay for the next phase of expansion plans at Beecroft Primary School in Burley.

Work is ongoing to complete work to expand Beecroft Primary from 210 pupil places to 315.

The work, which experienced delays last year, is costing around £3 million in total.

A council report said approving the expenditure said:

“The increase in pupil numbers was effective from September 2017 and the proposed work is critical to ensure the appropriate accommodation is in place for commencement of the 2018/19 academic year.

“Failure to meet this critical path will result in the need to provide alternative temporary accommodation to ensure that sufficient classroom space is available to support the existing and future pupils on roll. “
