Part of a derelict complex in Wortley which was the subject of an arson attack earlier this year could have a new lease of life as flats.
The main industrial units at Swallow Hill Mills, off Tong Road, were gutted by a 900 degree celsius blaze in May. More than 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at its peak, with Tong Road resident Luke Frost, 26, jailed in July for 28 months for arson.
Now Nathan Priestley, of IP Properties, has submitted a planning application to convert the more modern office block next to main mill building into nine studio apartments and an end terrace house. Highways chiefs have already said they have no objection to the proposals as the flats would not create any extra traffic and parking spaces are already in place.
Similar plans by the same applicant were made in February this year and withdrawn in April.
The future of the main mills building of the complex is still uncertain.
