Wortley: History Group

At the next meeting of the New Wortley History Group we will be receiving a visit from Rimpu from Armley Library. Rimpu has kindly been doing some research for about local businesses in the area at the Local History Library. This is to help us with the idea of building a map of 19th Century New Wortley which I would hope to display on Heritage Open Day in September.
It would be great if you or elderly relatives would like to share memories of shops & businesses particularly in the New Wortley Area prior to modern day redevelopments in the 1960’s. Do you have pictures, photographs or memories you would like to share then please come to our next meeting. If you would like me to share anything but would rather not come to the meeting then please email me rhea.bentley@newwortleycc.org
I also have a couple of albums of photographs dating from the 1980’s of activities in the community centre. Perhaps some people would like to come along and see if they can recognise themselves or people they would know. Some of the children might now be in their 40’s and 50’s. Maybe you can see some older relatives in there.

Pop down Monday 7th April 6-7.30, we might even have a quiz!

Lastly I would like to share a piece of work about Hill Top Moor by Simon Rickles who wrote it for the group.
