Wortley: History Group

Last month we had a great meeting with a special visit from Fiona and Terry giving a presentation about the 136 year history of Geo Spence on Wellington Raod. It was all filmed by George Ward for local tv which you can view here https://en-gb.facebook.com/…/a-new…/1498436577783150

Plans for the future include creating a 19th century map of the local area including all the shops and businesses. At our next meeting on 10th March 6-7.30pm I hope to discuss more about what sort of presentation we could offer for Heritage Open Day in September. Also, we have the opportunity of some small funding so it should be worth discussing how we would like to make use of this.

I will be bringing in a book called the Annals of Yorkshire, it’s a chronological history of Yorkshire with the last entry being 1859. I desperately would like to read it in depth but unfortunately with my eyesight i’m struggling.
