Scaled-back plans for flats on the former Burley Liberal Club site could be given the green light next week.

Applicants Burley Road Limited want to redevelop the former Burley Liberal Club into 110 apartments with car parking and landscaping. The flats would be built in ‘L-shaped’ blocks.

The plans have been scaled back following concerns by councillors that initial plans to create a new complex of 143 flats over six floors was too large and took up valuable green space in the area.

Developers have come back with revised plans for the Burley Road site which ensure:

  • The development no longer extends into greenspace to provide car parking
  • A reduction in the number of flats from 143 to 110
  • A reduction in the size of the building from six to five storeys

Councillors on the Leeds City Council’s south and west plans panel will next Thursday decide the application, which have also led to concerns about the in crease in traffic in an already congested area.

Recommending approval, a council planning officer’s report says:

“There remains a concern that the level of parking proposed could lead to some over-spill of car parking onto surrounding streets. The shortfall over the recommended provision is relatively minor and as the applicant is agreeable to the funding of the introduction of Traffic Regulation Orders to control parking on surrounding streets should this be necessary, on balance approval is recommended.”
