Campaigners aiming to buy the Cardigan Arms pub and bring it into community ownership are holding a public meeting to discuss a potential new partnership with a pub chain.

The meeting will discuss a potential partnership between Leeds-based community pub operator Mood Pubs and campaigners aiming to raise £300,000 to buy the Cardigan Arms in Kirkstall Road and take it into community ownership.

It comes a week after Cardigan Arms Communities Pub Ltd announced that an agreement to partner with Kirkstall Brewery in the bid had fallen through.

Jim Brettle said:

“With Kirkstall Brewery deciding to withdraw from the proposed partnership, we have returned to Mood Pubs who dropped out of the bidding when they became aware of the proposed tie-up with the local brewer.

“The clock is ticking and decisions have to be made quickly. This is your chance to help decide the fate of this wonderful pub, what it will look and feel like and help secure its future for many generation.”

Mr Brettle said Mood Pubs had a considerable track record in restoring and operating a number of pubs in West Yorkshire, including the Dickie Bird in Thwaites Brow, the Stumble Inn near Holmfirth, the Flying Ferret in Shelly, the Cross Inn at Heptonstall and the Golden Lion in Todmorden.

The public meeting to decide on the partnership will be held on Thursday, March 9, at 7.30pm.

Peter Mason of Mood Pubs will speak about the proposed partnership and answer questions.

Meanwhile, campaigners will be in the pub tonight from 5pm to meet pub regulars and members of the community to discuss what people would like to see happen in the pub. Check out the event on Facebook.
