Residents in Burley are invited to a public meeting to discuss merging two local community groups this week.

Both Burley Top and Burley Village community associations are holding a joint EGM (Extra Ordinary Meeting) to vote on the motion that the two groups are joined.

A post on the groups’ Facebook pages says there are several reasons for doing this, including the pooling of resources, lower costs for meetings and providing the area with a larger collective voice. It says:

“We share common aims to improve Burley and create a stronger more resilient community whilst also improving our local environment and creating an identity for Burley.

“We have worked closely over the last year to hold several successfully community events and it seems sensible to make our partnership more formal.”

It’s proposed to retain Burley Village as a sub-committee which will respond to any issues which only affect that area and retain Burley Top as the identity of the extended association.

The EGM will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, 11th October, at New Burley Club, Burley Hill Drive, Burley.
