Bramley’s Yorkshire Bank branch WILL be one of six branches across the North of England to close, it’s been announced today.

Yorkshire Bank says its branches will begin to close in August. It has pledged to find jobs within its business for as many staff as possible, but admitted a small number of colleagues will be at risk of redundancy.

Fergus Murphy, Group Retail Director at CYBG banking group, said:

“We are committed to maintaining a national network of branches. Announcing plans to close branches is never easy and it’s not a decision we take lightly. A number of factors are taken into consideration when reviewing our network, including branch usage, footfall and customer behaviour. Each branch is also assessed on an individual basis, carefully considering the impact on the local area, as well as alternative options.”

Yorkshire Bank said it will work with customers and communities to ensure that the transition to a new branch, and alternative ways of banking, are ‘as smooth and as sensitive as possible, particularly where vulnerable customers are concerned.’ Mr Murphy added:

“As customers change the way they want to bank with us, we need to find the right balance for our network. However, we are clear that branches will continue to play a vital role in our business. Our recent ‘Bank to the Future’ report highlighted the importance of the human touch, with 81 per cent of consumers still wanting to speak to someone, or visit a branch, no matter how advanced technology gets, so our branches are critical.

“Rebalancing the network for the way customers bank today means we are continuing to invest significantly in the network. We have also been at the forefront of new technology to help improve the banking experience for customers, including the introduction of cheque imaging, continuous improvement of our mobile banking apps and the installation of smart ATMs.”

Other branches closing include Redcar, Skipton, Tamworth, Widnes and Sutton-in-Ashfield.

  1. I have used the Bramley Bank since I started work in 1976. I may have had a bank account a year or two before. It is so convenient to bank, while shopping or passing by. Drawing money out is never a problem, due to ATMs, but even those are been reduced nationwide. It will be so sad to see the end of Yorkshire Bank in Bramley. I expect it will lose customers if another bank takes same place. Maybe i’ll need to move everything to the Halifax across the road.

  2. I’m very disappointed the Bramley branch is closing. I often have trouble trying to draw cash from machines and I have had to go to the bank to get cash. I also draw out pound coins to put in the charity boxes at the supermarkets. What about advice for loans and mortgages etc? It is so much better to speak face to face when discussing options.

  3. where will the old people have to go for there money nothing is said where the nearest branch will be when they shut town street branch down

  4. What is to happen to the people that cant use internet banking and the elderly who dont drive either …This day and age its getting worse for people to talk to your bank staff instead off machines when its press button one or button 2 and you still get the wrong person to speak to ….Nothing like going to the bank and being face to face to get what you want …………Also the loss off jobs ……

  5. Looks like I’ll be changing banks now as I need a bank every week to make a deposit . shame after banking with them for over 40 years .
