Older presidents of Rossefield Manor in Bramley will be treated to Christmas carols, mince pies and chocolates today (Wednesday 21st December).
A group of 11 to 15 year olds from Bramley will visit them to sing carols and ask about their memories of Christmas from when they were children.
Recent headlines about young people in Bramley have been less than positive, but this group of youngsters wanted to put something back into their community.
They are very keen to hear from the residents of Rossefield Manor’s supported housing about past Christmas traditions that most people have forgotten, and to bring festive cheer to people, some of whom may not have a family to visit them during the Christmas season.
The young people will be visiting Bramley Lawn social centre to sing carols with older people and the wider community during Bramley Lawn’s Christmas social open to the whole community from 11am-1pm, followed by a special visit to Rossefield Manor from 1pm to visit residents there.
Bramley Councillor Caroline Gruen said:
“There has always been a strong sense of community in Bramley and it is a credit to these young people who want to entertain and learn from the older people in our community.”
This is a new project between Barca-Leeds, Bramley Elderly Action and Hannover Housing. Both Barca-Leeds and Bramley Elderly Action were formed by Bramley Parish Council 22 years ago and they support individuals, families and communities in Bramley.
