Bramley resident Andrew Hardaker rallied his local community at the weekend and organised a litter pick, writes Jill Buckley.

Andrew was joined by residents from the Astons and the Musgraves, as well as other areas of Bramley.

Also helping out were pupils from Raynville and Christ the King Schools and Bramley and Stanningley councillors, Kevin Ritchie, Jools Heselwood and Caroline Gruen.

Andrew said around 30 people helped with the litter pick and more than 40 bags were filled alongside the clearing of many bulk items. Councillors will also be looking into arranging clearing glass and illegal fly-tipping. It is hoped to get a bin installed in the area in the not too distant future.

Councillor Ritchie thanked Andrew and all those present for their efforts, posting on Twitter:

“Great turnout at the first Astons litter pick, including children from @ChristtheKingCP and @RaynvilleLeeds. Thanks [to] local resident Andrew H for organising, with @Clean_Leeds help. #Bramley”

Andrew said he was pleased with the turnout:

“I’m pleased we’ve been able to add this litter pick to the ones that already exist in the area, such as the Broadleas, Newlay and Moorside.

“If anyone else has a particular area they’d like to tackle I’m willing to help anyone I can. I’d like to thank everyone who took part. And the help of Leeds City Council and our local councillors.”
