The Beulah: Plans submitted to demolish West Leeds pub

Landmark West Leeds pub The Beulah could be demolished and replaced by homes

Developers Park Designed Homes Ltd wants to demolish The Beulah on Tong Road in Farnley and build six new four-bedroomed houses.

According to the website of owners Trust Inns, the Farnley pub is on the market for £325,000 and is currently ‘under offer’.

A planning statement from the developers says:

“The original intentions for the development were to propose differing dwelling typologies, including houses, maisonettes and apartments.
“House styles were developed specifically to take advantage of the long range views across the Tong valley and a maisonette was placed above garaging.
“Ultimately, it was found that this option was not suitable for development in greenbelt and alternative schemes were investigated that still provided a logical development pattern without over development.
“The original contemporary, yet sensitive approach to the appearance of houses has been carried forward throughout the evolving design process.”

The statement adds:

“The site presents a logical opportunity to redevelop an underused public house and bring a brownfield area of land into residential usage in a desirable area close to employment centres, with existing public transport links on, and adjacent to the site.”
