Community spirit is alive and well in West Leeds!

The Dispatch held its latest community news cafe on Friday – and it was great to hear about so many things happening in different communities.

Adele Rae, from Burley Top Community Network, told us about community concerns surrounding traffic on St Ann’s Lane in Burley – she’ll be writing something for the Dispatch on the issue, but if you have any thoughts on the matter in the meantime, drop us a line.

There’s lots of positive stuff happening in Burley, too. There’s a community fun day coming up on the village green, and Adele was telling us about how she turns her living room over to older residents every fortnight to cook them a meal and give them companionship. We can’t wait to hear more about both!

Local resident Debby Dean had a long list of things happening in Bramley, from regular meetings of the Sassy Divas group for women and the Bramley Sewcial group, through to next Sunday’s community cooking day via the recently formed Bramley Grows Group and planned ‘yarn bombing’ at Bramley Lawn.

Debby’s also agreed to write a gardening column for us, which we’re looking forward to reading!

And it’s always great to catch up with community news cafe stalwart Sue from Bramley, who was telling us about how the Focus on Photography group she attends at Bramley Library officially ends in the second week in September. The results will be displayed in the library.

And Sue’s idea of a Sunday afternoon Yorkshire Pudding making session at Bramley Lawn, which was hatched at the community news cafe, looks as if it could become a reality. Watch this space …

Community news cafes are a great way of meeting up with Dispatch editor John Baron over a cuppa and a chat. The Dispatch is run entirely on a voluntary basis and welcomes contributions, reports, photographs etc from local residents on anything connected with life in West Leeds.
