Community groups Plastic-Free Me and Yorkshire Life Aquatic will be running weekly plastic-free youth workshops at Interplay Theatre in Armley, Leeds starting 8th January 2019.

For six weeks, 15 students aged 13-19 will be empowered to be leaders of environmental change through film, art, activism and community engagement.

This unique collaboration sees Plastic-Free Me – an organisation passionate about the protection of the oceans – team up with Leeds-based Yorkshire Life Aquatic who are renowned for their positive use of art and creativity in the water to encourage wellbeing as well as shining a light on environmental issues.

Held every Tuesday for six weeks, the three-hour evening sessions will cover filmmaking, artwork, activism, and leading workshops. Each session will be lead in conjunction with a specialist in those areas who will mentor the participants. The last two weeks will see the participants choose one area and create their own film, sculpture, political campaign or workshop.

It is hoped these workshops will encourage participants to look at the possibility of conservation careers whilst learning teamwork, leadership and creative skills. This free course has been funded by #iwillFund which is a collaborative between The Big Lottery Fund and the UK Government.

Those interested can head to the Plastic-Free Me website for full details. Fill out the application form at the bottom and we will contact successful applicants in due course. Informal queries can be made by contacting Hattie on hattie@plasticfreeme.org.
