One last push! That’s all that’s needed to help Armley Junktion’s fundraiser over the finishing line.

The £5,000 crowdfunding appeal, which has now passed over the half-way mark, was launched earlier this month following the cafe’s closure for refurbishment works in July.

As reported by the Dispatch, staff and helpers at pay-as-you-feel cafe had been carrying out their own volunteer-led refurbishment at the cafe, after being turned down for numerous grants and funding.

They were half-way through the work when disaster struck and they discovered a 40 to 50-year-old fuse board and meter.

An electrical inspection deemed the building unsafe to inhabit, and the café, which serves some of the most vulnerable people in the area, was forced to close.

Real Junk Food Project founder Adam Smith launched an urgent appeal to raise £5,000 to fund the electrical work and for a special flooring in the kitchen area.

Mr Smith thanked everyone who had donated or helped so far for their support. He said:

“We’re halfway there to our target, we just need one last push to get us over the line.

“We’re hoping to re-open next week, however, we still need you to help us to create the ultimate community environment in the city of Leeds, benefitting all communities.”

You can donate to the appeal on this GoFundMe page.
