September sees the arrival of a brand new sports club in West Leeds, with “First Touch Football” being the launching project.

Based at Swallow Hill Community College in Armley, West Leeds Juniors hope the First Touch Football project will serve as an introduction to the world of sport for children aged between four to six years old.

Working with partners Primary Sports UK, West Leeds Juniors aim to provide a fun environment in which many children will experience sport for the first time. The club hopes to create brand new football teams each year, beginning with under 7s.

While football is the vehicle, the club is determined to offer children a wide variety of experiences.

“We do not believe in early specialisation,” says club chairman Jamie Grand. “Our youngest children still need to learn a number of key physical skills, such as running, jumping, throwing and catching.”

Calling upon many collective years of experience, West Leeds Juniors has developed a philosophy based on much more than just scoring goals on a Sunday. Mr Grand added:

“We are dedicated to development of the  individual. We care about all aspects of our members, particularly their physical and  mental wellbeing.

“With First Touch Football, we hope to give young people the beginning of a lifetime love of learning and personal development. We will help children to develop confidence in a social setting, and encourage them to engage in imaginative play to help develop their creativity.”

The first of these exciting new classes takes place at 10.30am on Saturday, 19th September. Anyone needing further information about the programme should contact Jamie Grand on 07957320857 or jamie.grand@westleedsjuniors.club.
