Barnsley 0-38 West Leeds

There was a time when a visit to Barnsley would be a massive challenge but nothing phases this West Leeds side, writes Glenn Broadbent. With youth on its side this team is developing into one of the best to wear the blue and old gold.

Barnsley started off brightly but their attacks were closed down well by a tenacious away defence.

Tries from Calderwood x2 Betts, Booth, K Breakwell, Carpenter and 4 conversions from D Breakwell made up the 38 points.

Another bonus point win and West remain top.

West Leeds 2nd XV 38 – Wharfedale 29

West Leeds welcomed leaders Wharfedale to Bluehill Lane the visitors having only conceded 93 points in their previous eight games.

West Leeds took an early lead. The home domination continued and they went into the interval 26-0 up.

It was all change in the 2nd half with Wharfedale clawing back to within 5 points of Wests.

The home team then pulled further ahead to finish up on the winning side with tries from Asante, Fox, Rutty x 2, and Phillips x 2. Phillips also added 4 conversions.

West moved into 2nd place in the merit table with this bonus point win.

This Saturday the 1st XV take on Division One Halifax based Old Brodleians in the Yorkshire Shield KO 2.15pm, while the 2nds travel to Bradford and Bingley in the Merit Table.
