Stores including Lidl, Greggs, Heron and Card Factory will open at the new Belgrave Retail Park tomorrow.

The multi-million pound development will officially open on Thursday, 22nd February, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8.30am.

A number of shops will have special events and offers for the first shoppers to visit the retail park, in Stanningley.

Lidl

Lidl supermarket is inviting customers to attend its own ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8am. There will also be the chance to sample some of Lidl’s products throughout the day, along with exclusive deals and offers on selected products for the first week of opening.

These include a hot air fryer (£29.99, RRP £49.99) on Thursday, 22nd February, a demolition hammer (£39.99, RRP £69.99) on Friday, 23rd February and a sewing machine (£39.99, RRP £79.99) on Saturday, 24th February.

The new supermarket has created 40 new jobs. It has a 1,424m² sales area and features an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing, customer toilets, baby changing and parking for both cars and bicycles.

Lidl UK’s regional head of property, Graham Burr, said:

“We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Stanningley.

“It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

Greggs

Greggs says it will offer customers a contemporary food-on-the go experience, with seating available for those who wish to enjoy their purchases inside the shop.

Breakfast will be served until 11am, featuring traditional classics such as bacon rolls, fresh fruit and a full range of freshly ground, Fairtrade coffee.

Customers will also be able to enjoy a range of hot sandwiches and soups as well as a range of cold sandwiches and salads that are freshly prepared throughout the day.

Shop opening times are 6.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 9.30am to 4pm on Sunday. The store has created seven new jobs.

Greggs shop manager Amy Schofield said:

“We can’t wait to open our doors and hear what the local community thinks. We hope customers enjoy the wide range of tasty items we have on offer.”

Heron Foods

Heron will open its doors on Thursday, 22nd February and is also hosting a special event on Saturday, 3rd March, when the shop will be giving away a free magnetic shopping list pad to the first 250 customers.

Customers will also have the chance to win one of two £25 Heron Foods shopping vouchers in store.

Mike Igoe, commercial director at Heron, said:

“We are building on our great value reputation and improving our offer to customers in the Stanningley area.

“We’ll be stocking an expanded range of chilled, frozen and everyday groceries we’re famous for, together with some new non-food products.”

The Butcher’s Shop

Underwood Meat Company, owner of The Butcher’s Shop chain, is another business opening a new store at Belgrave Retail Park.

The family-run company, which also has stores in Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, Dronfield and Eckington, is marking the expansion with a range of limited-time offers exclusive to Belgrave customers.

These include 2kg trays of pork sausages for half price at £2.99, a 2.25kg pack of bacon for only £7.49, 5kg of chicken fillets for £17.99 and mini beef roasting joints for £4.50.

Chris Grice, retail operations manager for The Butcher’s Shop, said:

“We have designed our opening offers to showcase our mission to provide customers with a wide selection of quality meat products at consistently low prices.
“We’re also bringing our popular regular offers to the store, including our three for £6 mix and match offer, our £19.99 family meat hamper and our three packs for £5 deal on our sausage range.
“On top of this is our Eat Lean, Live Healthy line, which is new for 2018 and provides customers with any four meats from the range for £10. All the range is more than 95 per cent visually lean so it’s perfect for anyone watching the pounds both on the scales and in the bank!”

Other shops

Also opening at Belgrave Retail Park are dry cleaners, Sunlite, and tanning salon, Indigo Sun. A Home Bargains store is due to open in April.

Community art installation

Artist Pippa Hale will be unveiling a new work commissioned by Lidl and local councillors for Bramley and Stanningley to celebrate Stanningley’s industrial past and the opening of the Belgrave Retail Park.

Called The Bridge, the 2.6-metre scuplture is cast from iron and follows the arc of a bridge reaching out from the retail park towards the street. Its shape represents the pouring of molten iron from the ladle into the mould in the process of casting in the foundry, thus creating an arc.

Pippa said:

“The work is a bridge between the past and present, a reminder of Stanningley’s glorious industrial past and a link to its new servicing future.”

The Dispatch reported on the sculpture earlier this month.

Retail park facts

Belgrave Retail Park is a 52,000 sq ft retail park developed by PDR Construction. The Hessle company started work the site in Town Street, Stanningley, in June last year.

The site is anchored by a 24,500 sq ft Lidl store with seven other retail units fully let to names including Home Bargains, Heron, Card Factory and Greggs.

The retail park is built on a brownfield site that was formerly occupied by electrical manufacturer Winder Power, which moved to larger premises nearby in 2008. It has 251 parking spaces.
