An empty shop in Pudsey could be converted into six flats, if plans are approved.

Mr S Mughal of developer Riyat Associates wants to transform the former Bolt and Nut shop in Chapeltown which has been empty for several years.

The plans, which can be viewed in full here, include two one bedrromed and four two-bedroom flats. There would be parking for six cars and a bike shelter.

The owner of a neighbouring business has already objected to the plans. Kelsey Elliott, of The Tanning Lounge, fears the development would lead to traffic problems in the area. Miss Elliott said:

“I have concerns regarding this development due to the already limited parking outside the property. With the potential of up to 20 occupants within this property with even one car per flat, this puts us small businesses at risk of losing business, when we already struggle with parking.

“We have experienced issues with residents of surrounding properties already due to limited parking, I do not wish to add to this problem.”

Riyat Associates recently had plans for housing down Pudsey Road refused by Leeds City Council.

Meanwhile, Fultons Foods has announced it’s opening up a new store in Pudsey town centre.

The well-known ‘value’ Yorkshire brand has been trading for over 50 years and now operates from over 100 stores in the North of England.

It’s taking over the empty building next to the Post Office in Church Lane, the former home of Santander Bank until its closure to focus on its Lidget Hill branch several years ago. It’s understood the store is likely to open in before Christmas.

It already has branches in Armley and Bramley and is about to open a store in Stanningley.
