Organisers of the annual Pudsey Carnival need YOUR help to support the town’s annual carnival parade.

The carnival is run each year by a group of dedicated volunteers – but last year police cutbacks led to them ending their support of the parade, which runs from Queens Park and through the town centre.

This means that for the second year running organisers are having to employ a private traffic management company at a cost of £1,500 to manage the roads around Pudsey on carnival day.

Carnival chairman Simon Seary said:

“This is our second year where we are needing a traffic management company to assist with the safe running of the parade.

“It’s the biggest bill the carnival has, but we feel we need to keep the tradition of the parade going. We are asking for donations to cover the traffic management expense.”

Pudsey Carnival is a community event which dates back to 1898 and takes place once a year.

A fun fair, stalls, games and events will run as normal on Queens Park. The carnival will be held on May 20 2017.

CORRECTION:
This article was amended 19/4/17 at 6pm to clarify the carnival date is Saturday, May 20, not May 21 as first stated.
