An online petition to save Radcliffe Day Centre in Pudsey from closure has been launched.

The centre, on Radcliffe Lane, is set to close as cash-strapped Leeds council bosses bid to save £2 million across the city.

The online petition states:

“This is an amazing day centre, and a lifeline for the older people of Leeds. This is a needed service and has good attendance. Why is it when there’s cuts, it’s the older people of Leeds who suffer.

“Pudsey is a great community, and Radcliffe is part of that – please save Radcliffe!”

One person to sign the petition is Sarah Ward. She said:

“I’m a carer and I have a client that attends here one day a week and she really enjoys it. And it’s the only day her daughter her gets a break and to do something for herself. You do a fab job. Local people need centres like this.”

Last September, the Dispatch featured how dozens of people held a protest at Leeds Civic Hall against plans to close three residential care homes across the city – including Middlecross in Armley. The protesters disrupted a meeting of the council’s executive board.

The centres are due to close later this year.
