Commuters at Bramley and New Pudsey Stations are set to benefit from a new early morning service between Leeds and Bradford.

Northern Rail has announced extra capacity on the busy line by introducing an extra service at 7.44am from Bradford Interchange into Leeds.

The new service, which includes wi-fi, will stop at New Pudsey and Bramley from July 11.

Northern is using a state-of-the-art Grand Central (GC) class 180 train on a loan basis with a GC crew on board.

Arriva took control of the Northern Rail franchise in April, promising fleets of better, faster trains, thousands of extra seats and improved rail services across the north of England.

The German company has also pledged to phase out the widely condemned Pacer trains that serve regional routes by 2018.

The announcement follows this week’s official opening of the new Kirkstall Forge Station.

Initially, one train per hour will call in each direction, with additional services during the morning and evening peaks. The already overcrowded Wharefedale Line does not stop there.

A section of the new cycle superhighway, which runs from Bradford through to East Leeds, has also been officially opened today after becoming informally open to cyclists on Monday.
