It’s the oldest surviving building in Armley, dating back to 1793. But bosses at the Armley Junktion cafe, home of The Real Junk Food Project, are looking to rebuild it and transform it into the first environmentally friendly, self-sustaining café in Leeds.

Fundraising has begun under the hashtag #‎madeinarmley‬. Can you help? Here’s their story …

Anyone that has visited Armley Junk-tion will know we don’t like to stand still.

When we purchased the building in June 2015 we did this with the vision we would create a space that would not only be a café and restaurant for people to enjoy but somewhere where we could host events and training to give the community a central hub that can be used for many things.

Our aim for Armley Junk-tion is to:

  • Increase the capacity to be four times bigger than what it is today
  • Have a space where we can host events such as live music or open mic
  • Create meeting rooms for local businesses and patrons to use
  • Build a larger kitchen area where we can train new Chefs from the grass roots up and hold workshops and other training events.

Along with creating an amazing space for everyone to use, it will also be the first environmentally friendly, self-sustaining café in Leeds and will be in control of our own energy inputs and outputs.

To help us achieve our vision for Armley Junk-tion we need support from our local community and businesses.

We want to re-build the café using our PAYF ethos so that means you can donate time, money or skills to help us do this.

If you are able to help us, or know anyone that can donate any of the following

  • Building materials (however large or small, we will consider everything)
  • Industrial kitchen appliances (that can be used in large commercial kitchens)
  • Furniture (for restaurants and offices)
  • Time and skills (building, electrical, plastering, joinery, plumbing, decorating, and any other skill we may have missed!)
  • Financial contributions

Please get in touch by emailing us at armley_junk-tion@outlook.com or making a donation through our Paypal account.

We will be using this page to blog the build as we progress, so remember to keep checking up on us!

The Real Junk Food Project diverts food destined for waste and uses it to create delicious and healthy meals on a pay as you feel basis.
