Building work starts this week on the Hollybush Roundhouse after more than three years of fundraising by TCV Hollybush

The building will provide a much need space for volunteers to meet and take breaks, it will also host training sessions, workshops and be available for group or private hire at other times.

Hollybush centre manager John Preston said:

“Finally we will have a beautiful, fully accessible space and more groups will be able to have a base when visiting or using the Hollybush grounds.

“Our old volunteer volunteers’ room was too small and we converted it into the café three years ago.”

Fundraising has been a long haul, with 20% of the total coming from individual donations, a further 10% from Halloween and Christmas evening fundraising events, and three sponsored walks or cycles. Donations in memory of four volunteers added another £5,000.

TCV Hollybush has also been helped by a capital grant from Big Lottery Reaching Communities as part of Outdoors, Active and Well a partnership with Leeds Mind and Hyde Park Source.

Torque UK a major logistics company in Wortley, adopted the project as its Charity of the Year. Contributions have also been received from The Wades Trust, Sir George Martin Trust, Brotherton Trust, the ACT Foundation, the West Riding Masonic Charity and the R E Chadwick Trust.

A further £4,300 came from local councillors. Cllr Lucinda Yeadon, Deputy Council Leader and member for Kirkstall Ward, said:

“Local councillors are pleased that we were able to add £4300 to the appeal funds and are really looking forward to the opening of this new facility.”

The “Roundhouse Final Push” appeal to raise £1,000 is running on the Local Giving website until Friday.

TCV Hollybush works with over 500 disadvantaged people to help them rebuild their lives, offering a safe haven where people can learn to be well again.
