The latest Kirkstall riverbank clean-up following the Boxing Day 2015 floods is held this weekend. This reader’s letter has the details and appeals for YOU to get involved…

Nesting bird season is finished and we can finally get back into St Ann’s Mills – Burley Woods. We will be working between the goit and the meadow.

This weekend’s Team Kirkstall volunteer day will be at Burley Mills Woods – starting at the entrance to St Ann’s Mills on Kirkstall Road  near the Big Mc’s Container Storage sign.

Your leaders on the day will be Phil, Ben and Bobby and Pete – and they will answer any questions you have as well as making sure the day goes safely and is a lot of fun.

We will meet at 9.50am to talk through the plan for the day, including the risk assessment and a talk about what tools we will use on the day.

You can access the meeting point walking along Kirkstall Road, out of town, past the Ready Steady Store on to Big Mc’s Container Storage (large roadside sign) and we will meet down that path.

We begin work at 10am and work until 2pm weather permitting.  We break for tea at 12 noon and then continue until 2pm.  For more detailed directions and information, please see the end of this email:

Really hope to see you all there and make some great headway into an area that seriously needs some love and attention – together we can really make a difference and get it looking beautiful and on the way to being a better habitat for local wildlife.

Thank you all so much for your continued support, help and encouraging commitment – it means the world to us!  if you can’t make it, please share, so others can!

After the volunteer day, please join us for lunch at the West End Pub, paid for by us as a great big thank you for the hard work everybody has put in on the day!

Please let us know if you will be bringing any under 16’s with you on the day, as if we know a few are coming, we will provide a specific supervised activity for younger volunteers.

With big gratitude,

Phil, Bobby and Ben & All the Team Kirkstall River Stewardship Committee.
