It’s been an ongoing saga – but at long last an opening date for the delayed Kirkstall Forge Station has been released.

Trains could start calling at Kirkstall Forge from Sunday, 19 June 2016. It’s understood this date will be brought forward if it is possible to do so.

As reported by the Dispatch last week, transport chiefs in Leeds are awaiting approval from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) to open the station to passengers.

The ORR is the regulator for health and safety across the whole mainline rail network in Britain, as well as London Underground, light rail, trams and the heritage sector.

The new station includes:

  • Pick-up/drop-off point and approximately 120-space station car park.
  • Fully-accessible platforms with staircases and lifts.
  • CCTV.
  • Passenger information displays and public address system.
  • Secure cycle parking.
  • Modern waiting shelters.

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority said today:

“Kirkstall Forge Station will provide people with links to work and leisure opportunities in Leeds, as well as bring people to the wider Kirkstall Forge development.

“It will also reduce existing congestion and improve journey reliability along the busy A65 and electric train links replacing car journeys will help reduce harmful emissions.”

Building work has already started at the Kirkstall Forge development, with the first building due for completion next year. Eventually, the 57-acre development will comprise over 1,000 new homes, 300,000 sq ft of offices, 100,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and community space and create around 2,400 new jobs.

Details of the calling times are in the Airedale, Wharfedale and Leeds Bradford Line timetables which came out earlier this month.

  1. Could no-one bother to collate the “details of the calling times… in the Airedale, Wharfedale and Leeds Bradford Line timetables which came out earlier this month.”?

Surely this is one of the most important pieces of information.

    • Hi Fergus

A quick Google search shows Wharfedale train times for Kirkstall Forge can be found here. Leeds Bradford times can be found here.
