The end of a four-year fundraising campaign was celebrated when volunteers at Hollybush Conservation Centre unveiled their new Roundhouse.

The opening of the £55,000 building, off Broad Lane, Kirkstall, was part of Hollybush’s annual celebration, attended by well over 120 people.

The Roundhouse at Hollybush now provides a warm place for volunteers to plan the day’s activities, enjoy a well-deserved break when working outdoors or do preparatory work during the cold winter months.

It will also give Hollybush a much needed accessible meeting space for our mental health peer support groups, therapeutic Garden Groups, visitors and course trainees.

Operations leader John Preston said:

“It was an amazing evening as senior staff from our partners agencies mingled with the Lord Mayor, local councillors and current volunteers as well as individual donors and representatives of many funders for the building.

“It was a chance to say a public thank you to everyone whether they donated £15,000 or £5.

“These range from the National Lottery, through logistics company Torque UK and many charitable trusts to friends of TCV who made direct donations or supported TCV volunteers on one of four sponsored activities. “

National Lottery funding, delivered by Big Lottery Fund, has supported the building through Outdoors Active and Well, which is a three year partnership lead by Leeds Mind with TCV and Hyde Park Source.

This programme provides eight weekly sessions of gardening and wildlife walks plus mindfulness workshops.

Lord Mayor of Leeds Cllr Jane Dowson formally declared the Roundhouse open. She was helped by Phil Corrigan, CEO of the combined Leeds Clinical Commissioning Group.
