Ofsted praise: Five Lanes Primary School in Wortley.

Two new pedestrian crossings will be installed on two roads near schools in Kirkstall and Wortley, as part of a £346,000 city-wide package of safety improvements.

Leeds City Council chiefs have approved installing humped zebra crossings at Morris Lane in Kirkstall and Upper Wortley Road in Wortley.

Morris Lane, Kirkstall

This busy road is very close to Kirkstall St Stephen’s Church of England Primary School.

A council report approving the crossing says:

“The overwhelming majority of pedestrians crossing at this location during the busiest hours are children with a clearly defined peak during school pick up and drop off time. A zebra crossing is being proposed to complement existing features along this length.”

Upper Wortley Road, Wortley

Upper Wortley Road is a busy local distributor road that accommodates nearly 10,000 vehicles per day. The council report adds:

“This location is close to Five Lanes Primary School; consequently there are a large number of children crossing at this location during the busiest hours and there is a clearly defined peak during school pick up and drop off time.”

The report can be read in full here.
