A public meeting will be held on Monday to discuss the latest stage of a long-running battle to stop houses being built at Kirklees Knoll in Farsley.

Members of the Farsley Residents Action Group have been battling developer Thornhill Estates Ltd plans for about 400 homes Kirklees Knoll, a green area between Calverley Lane in Rodley and Bagley Lane in Farsley.

The proposal was thrown out by secretary of state Eric Pickles and a planning inspector last March on the grounds that it was contrary to Leeds Unitary Development Plan policy and would have ‘adverse impacts on local character and identity’.

But the developers successfully appealed to the High Court, which quashed the decision – and a further planning inquiry into the application will be heard in January at Pudsey Town Hall.

A public meeting ahead of the inquiry will be held at Priesthorpe School at 6.30pm on Monday, 21st November 2016.

Cllr Andrew Carter (Cons, Farsley and Calverley) urged local residents to attend. He said:

“Your local councillors and Farsley Residents’ Action Group will outline their plans to oppose proposed housing development on Kirklees Knoll, Farsley at the planning appeal hearing in early January.

“Please attend – we need your support.”
