Farsley Celtic put in a clinical performance as they defeated Yorkshire rivals Whitby Town 4-0, writes Thomas Ritchie.

Nathan Cartman hit a brace, on target for the first time since late January, with goals from Lewis Turner and Luke Parkin also helping the Celts do the double over Whitby.

Farsley started quickly, and had strong shouts for a penalty inside two minutes as Nathan Cartman went down in the box; however, the referee waved away the home side’s appeals.

After a couple of half chances, Lewis Turner came close for Farsley, dragging his effort just wide after a neat one-two with Cartman.

Luke Parkin then had a nice opening for the hosts, but he opted against taking on the shot and Callum Martin blocked his square ball intended for Ben Atkinson.

Luke Parkin made amends for the error to help Farsley take a deserved lead before the break, as Lewis Turner nodded Parkin’s superb cross home at the far post.

It should have been 2-0 just a minute later, as Paul Walker latched onto a weak Dan McWilliams back pass, but somehow failed to hit the target when one-on-one with Whitby ‘keeper Jack Norton.

Norton was called into action just before the hour mark, making a brilliant save from Adam Clayton’s header as he tipped the ball round the upright.

From the resulting corner, Farsley doubled their advantage, Clayton winning the header from Luke Parkin’s corner and Nathan Cartman was on hand to poke home from close range.

Less than two minutes later Cartman had his second of the evening, beating the offside trap and breaking in behind the Whitby defence to slot home past Norton.

Cartman could have had his hat trick shortly after, but Jack Norton comfortably gathered his strike on the turn.

The best was saved until last as far as the goals were concerned, Luke Parkin picking the ball up inside the Whitby half and driving forward before letting fly into the back of the net from all of 30 yards.

Whitby did have a couple of late chances, Kyle Trenerry saving well from Lewis Maloney before Matthew Tymon failed to get guide his free header on target, however Farsley were ultimately comfortable in claiming the three points.
