Farsley Celtic 0 Halifax Town 2

Farsley Celtic were dumped out of the West Riding County Cup on Tuesday as they were beaten 2-0 at Throstle Nest by National League side Halifax Town, writes Thomas Ritchie.

Halifax had the first clear-cut opportunity of the game as Farsley midfielder Neil Stevens lost out to Sam Hillhouse, who cut inside before dragging his shot just wide of the near post.

Just minutes later Halifax took the lead as Shaun Tuton played in Josh MacDonald who slotted past Farsley ‘keeper Jake Lofthouse. Kyle Harrison then prevented Halifax from doubling their lead as he somehow managed to clear Ross Barrows effort off the line and away for a corner.

Town continued to press and had a great chance as Lofthouse was caught off his line, only for Danny Hattersley’s effort to be deflected off Harrison and palmed away by the retreating Lofthouse.

However, Halifax were soon two goals to the good as Hattersley fired home from the edge of the box. Moments later Celtic had their first shot on target, as a swerving effort from 30 yards by Paddy Miller was brilliantly saved by Jordan Porter.

Farsley had the best of the second half, however failed to create any clear cut chances until the final ten minutes.

Aiden Savory almost pulled one back after being played through by Josh Grant, only for his shot to be well saved by Porter. Next, Porter was forced into another fine save as Lewis Sugden fired a terrific effort goalwards.

Farsley’s final chance of the game was when substitute Lewis Nightingale played in Leon Osbourne, who only managed to shoot at Porter.
