Farsley Celtic earned their first victory of pre-season under new manager Adam Lakeland with a 4-3 victory over Eccleshill United at the Mitton Group Stadium.

The game started slowly with both sides struggling to create chances in the final third, however it was the visitors who fashioned the first chance with David McDermott shooting from the edge of the box and producing a good save from Dom Smith in the Eccleshill goal.

However, it was Eccleshill who edged in front through captain Sam Brados who powered home Ben Hardy’s corner, giving Farsley ‘keeper Jake Lofthouse no chance.

Farsley immediately went looking for a reply and should have drawn level as Isaac Baldwin’s ball found Luke Parkin who squared to Richard Marshall, his shot going wide of the upright.

Just moments later James Walshaw levelled the score after being played through by Ben Atkinson and slotting home past Dom Smith.

Ben Atkinson supplied the assist once more as Farsley took the lead, his pass finding Luke Parkin who fired into the bottom corner for his first Farsley goal.

Parkin then turned provider after receiving the ball from Ben Atkinson again, pulling the ball back for James Walshaw who swept home.

Eccleshill hit back just before the interval with a free-kick masterclass from Ben Hardy, finding the top left corner and then the top right corner with two sumptuous free-kicks that drew the home side level.

Farsley started the second half looking to regain the lead and almost did so, with Isaac Baldwin’s cross finding Adam Priestley, with his glancing header well held by Smith.

After a string of substitutions deflated an exciting contest, ex-Celt Marcus Edwards almost made it 4-3, heading wide at the far post from a Scott Manning cross.

But it was The Celts who found the crucial fourth goal just four minutes from the end, Isaac Baldwin’s cross being volleyed home by Adam Priestley at the far post.

Priestley then came agonizingly close to sealing victory as a thunderous strike from 25 yards out crashed against the crossbar.

Eccleshill did create one final opportunity with Andy Cooper’s cross finding Ryan Canning, however his header at the far post was superbly saved by Kyle Trenerry, with Farsley holding on for the victory.
