Blocks of flats in Pudsey will receive a facelift to improve security and brighten up communal areas.

The works will give the seven blocks a facelift and at the same time tackle a number of security and safety issues.

They include new communal and emergency lighting, new doors to flats where required and new external doors to the blocks.

At Rutland Court works will be carried out to the balconies, including new railings and every flat will get its own letterbox.

Consultation on the works, as well as extra elements like flooring, is currently under way. All works are expected to be completed in the financial year.

The work has been welcomed by Councillor Richard Lewis (Lab, Pudsey). He said:

“All proprieties need a facelift once in a while, and I think it’s well overdue for these blocks as I don’t think much has been done to the communal areas since they were built – and I reckon they’re 60 years old.

“I’m particularly pleased the work is to be done quickly and that Rutland Court residents will be able to use their balconies next summer.

“Council staff have already started speaking to people door to door to let them know what’s happening and they should have seen everyone soon. If for any reason people aren’t able to speak to a council representatives then they can always talk to me about it.”
