Council housing plans for former eyesore Bramley pub site

The site of  the former Lord Cardigan pub in the centre of Bramley is set to be turned into eight council houses, council documents have revealed.

The former pub site, which was deemed one of the ten worst eyesores in Leeds and cleared earlier this year, had been bought by RDF Building Services, based on Wortley Moor Road.

A scheme to build eight three-storey town houses with off-street parking on the land off Hough Lane was approved by the council in March.

Now Leeds City Council has agreed to buy the scheme from RDF Building but have amended the proposals to two bedroom houses to allow larger bedroom sizes and meet demand in Bramley for that type of property. The new bedrooms will apparently be planned to allow easy conversion to a three bedroom house should the size of the tenanted family increase.

It’s understood work is due to start ‘imminently’.

The overall cost of the scheme has been classified as confidential as it ‘relates to the financial affairs of a private business or person’.

The pub was bulldozed back in 2012, leaving a weed and litter-strewn site opposite Bramley District Shopping Centre.
