Often there are people in a community who quietly donate their time, effort and enthusiasm to make where they live a nicer place to be, writes Creative Calverley‘s Gael Timbers.

In the majority of cases, people are not thanked or recognised for the work that they achieve – but that’s about to change in a part of west Leeds.

Local group Creative Calverley is introducing a new and exciting annual event to the village: the “Calverley Community Awards”.

The idea is for people who live in the community to nominate those residents who bring just a little extra “sparkle” to the village and give back to the community.

There are many categories that people can be nominated for, the main categories being:

  • King of Calverley
  • Queen of Calverley
  • Best Street
  • Young Achiever (Under 18)
  • Older Achiever (Over 18)
  • Best Neighbour
  • Contribution to the Community

Nominations are now open until the 31 August 2016 and can be made via the Big Lunch page on the Creative Calverley website.

The top three people nominated from each category will be open to “public vote” from the 1 September (electronic and paper based voting will be available) and the winner of each category will be announced at Calverley Big Lunch on the 10 September 2016.

Each winner will receive a special trophy in recognition of their success.

If you are a local business or resident and would like to sponsor the awards or a specific award, please do contact Creative Calverley.
