Hundreds of votes have come in already, but there is still time to vote for your community heroes and heroines in Calverley.

As previously reported, local group Creative Calverley is introducing a new and exciting annual event to the village: the Calverley Community Awards.

Voting closes tomorrow, Thursday, September 8, and you can vote online or via paper at Calverley Post Office or Calverley News.

Categories are:

  • King of Calverley
  • Queen of Calverley
  • Best Street
  • Young Achiever (Under 18)
  • Older Achiever (18 and over)
  • Best Neighbour
  • Contribution to the Community
  • Best Team or Club
  • Best Place
  • Best Place to Drink
  • Best Place to Eat
  • Best Cat
  • Best Dog

Some of the votes are apparently close, so you could make all the difference… get involved.

Winners will be announced at a Calverley ‘Big Lunch’ event on Saturday, 10 September.

The Big Lunch is a get-together for neighbours and is an idea from the Eden Project which encourages people across the UK to come together for a few hours of food, friendship and fun.

The initiative aims to create stronger, friendlier communities in which people start to share things, from conversation and ideas to skills and resources.

The theme is ‘Roald Dahl’ and events have been organised at Calverley Methodist Church Hall, Calverley Library and The Barn (near Calverley Parish Church). More details here.
