Busy Galloway Lane in Pudsey is set for a new zebra crossing and a package of measures to manage traffic and improve road safety.

The £27,000 scheme is being paid for by housing developer Berkeley Deveer as part of gaining planning permission in 2007 to build 52 houses off Galloway Lane.

The new zebra crossing is west of Alder Drive and will improve pedestrian access to the shops.

The improvements also include new traffic regulations to manage parking problems at Upper Carr Lane in Calverley, which are linked to commercial operations at Hollin Park Mills.

A council report authorising the expenditure in Calverley says:

“Some years ago a consultation was carried out with all the affected residents and the vast majority were in favour of the introduction of traffic regulations to manage parking in the street. There were two residents that had strong objections to the measures but as the problem still persists Ward Members have now asked if this proposal can be resurrected.”
