Friday, July 1 marks 100 years since the commencement of the Battle of Somme – with 50,000 casualties, over 19,000 of them dead on the first day, writes John Barker.

77 local men from Bramley, Rodley and Stanningley died in the battle, which continued until November.

We are remembering with two events at Bramley War Memorial:
Firstly at 7.25 am with a bugler five minutes later to mark the moment the troops left their trenches and then a Service of Remembrance at 10.45am.

All welcome to attend.
