Support organisation Bramley Elderly Action held its annual general meeting at the weekend – and celebrated its 21st birthday at the same time.

Rachel Reeves, MP for Leeds West and BEA patron, attended the meeting and said:

“Bramley Elderly Action brings out the best in people, gives people chances and the opportunity to try new things.”

Her full speech is in the video below:

Ms Reeves and Leeds Lord Mayor Cllr Judith Chapman also presented long service awards to Sally McHale and Edna Rose (pictured above), who are standing down from the BEA board. Both have been involved since the organisation started 21 years ago.

There was a lively question and answer session, with members interested in a range of topics, including the need for a new minibus, new volunteer drivers and escorts and concerns over the future of Bramley Community Centre.

Cllr Chapman also encouraged more people to volunteer at BEA.

BEA provides opportunities and support for older people in Bramley, Swinnow and parts of Stanningley.
