An Indian restaurant and bar on Bradford Road in Pudsey has applied for a licence to sell alcohol until 2am – but concerns have been raised on the impact on nearby houses.
The application has been made by Baboshka Limited, for Papaya at 501 Bradford Road. They want to sell alcohol in the restaurant and play recorded music daily from 3pm until 2am.
They’ve promised to operate a Challenge 25 policy, no noise coming from the premises will cause a nuisance and operate a CCTV policy.
But Calverley and Farsley councillors Rod Wood and Andrew and Amanda Carter have objected to the proposals. In an objection letter they wrote:
“We believe that the building and car park are too close to residents’ homes to allow a licence until 2am, with the closure of the premises at 2.30am and the licence therefore should be restricted.
“We don’t accept that the sale of alcohol will be restricted solely to diners, the establishment will effectively be a restaurant, with late-night drinking.”
West Yorkshire Police have withdrawn their objections.
This premises previously traded under the name of the Farmers and had a licence between 10am to 1am Thursday to Saturday and 10am to midnight Sunday to Wednesday.
The application will be decided by councillors on the licensing sub-committee at Leeds Civic Hall on Tuesday 17 April 2018, starting at 10am. The council report can be read in full here.
