West Yorkshire Police have been targeting people causing anti-social behaviour on Armley Town Street by issuing dispersal orders, writes REBECCA QUARMBY.

Following on from last month’s incident when two men were pictured passed out in the pavement on Town Street, police told an Armley Forum meeting that they have been patrolling the area and giving out dispersal orders to groups of people causing a nuisance.

PC Kirsty May said:

“They’ve all had their warnings and if they come back, we’ll go again.”

As previously reported, Leeds City Council has secured a public space protection order for the area which will soon be in place to help to reduce litter and take further action on anti-social behaviour.

Cllr Alice Smart (Lab, Armley) said:

“It does seem to have got better in the last month but I don’t think the problem has gone away completely.”

But Adnan Khan, from Armley, said:

“They’ve taken away the benches where the drinkers used to sit but it hasn’t made a difference at all. Where are the elderly going to sit?”
