Armley residents and traders can have their say on a plan to help limit the number of off licences selling cheap booze in the Town Street area.

As previously reported, Leeds City Council is looking at putting a cumulative impact policy (CIP) in Armley to help tackle problems with street drinking and anti-social behaviour. The CIP which will place the responsibility on the applicant to prove a new licence application will not make matters worse in Armley.

The council has this week launched a public consultation to give local residents, shoppers and traders their say on the proposal.

You can take part in the consultation here.

Cllr Alice Smart (Lab, Armley) said:

“We know that there is a high correlation between the volume of off-licenses and the prevalent street drinking and anti social behaviour problems in the area.

“We believe that controlling the number of off-licenses is an essential part of combatting these local problems.”

The Dispatch reported earlier this week that Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves supported the idea of putting the Town Street area under a CIP.
