The recent All Together Armley ‘winter awareness’ event saw residents from across West Leeds coming together at the Armley Community Hub on Town Street, writes BRIONY AXE.
The event, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, was coordinated in collaboration with a number of service providers. With the aim of highlighting the help available to local residents to support them through the winter.
A variety of information was on offer, based on topics including healthy eating, waste disposal, preventative health, loneliness and isolation, and debt and energy efficiency.
Representatives from the locally-based service providers were on hand to present information and answer questions, as well as to put human faces behind the organisations.
In addition to the wealth of information on offer, Barca-Leeds offered attendees soup and a roll, while other service providers offered thermometers, calendars and other practical items, with British Gas Thermos cups being in particularly high demand.
Reverend Arani Sen, from Christ Church, and Father Michael, from St Bartholomew’s, were also on hand to talk to visitors. Rev Sen said:
“Events such as these are simply a great opportunity to to come together as a community. Service providers can make themselves known and residents can find out exactly what support is available to them, in a laid-back environment.”
Also in attendance was Councillor Alice Smart, who spoke to attendees and service provider representatives. She said:
“I am pleased to have been able to attend and would like to sincerely thank All Together Armley for organising this important event.”
Glenn Broadbent, of All Together Armley added:
“This event always brings out the best of Armley, it offers a laid back and relaxed environment for the community to connect with one another. We are delighted to be able to support the charities, in both connecting them with service users, and raising funds so that they can carry out the amazing work that they do for the community.”
