A welcome board is offering messages of support for immigrants in Armley.

The ‘Welcome to Armley’ board is now based in Armley Junktion Café.

It allows people to come and post messages of support, sympathy, solidarity and welcome to the victim of a race hate attack in Armley a fortnight ago and to all immigrants in Armley.

The board was inspired by local reaction to an anti-Eastern European attack on a shop in Norwich last month.

Armley resident Linda Petty is one of the people behind the board. She said on Facebook:

“Please come and post your messages! There will be post-its and pins there for you to use. Positive messages only of course.

“Once it’s full we could, perhaps, display it in the Polish shops, if they are up for it. Or.. who knows…”

Nine people aged between 13 to 16 have been arrested in connection with the Armley race hate attack. Police say investigations are ongoing.

Armley Junktion reopened on Monday following a £5,000 refurbishment appeal.

The café had been closed since July when an electrical inspection deemed the building unsafe to inhabit.

The Real Junk Food Project, which runs Armley Junktion, has also opened the UK’s first waste supermarket in Pudsey.
